Organisers of the 2017 McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival have launched  the ‘Celebrate You’ retreat –  a three day health and fitness program on Magnetic Island, coinciding with the event.

McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival president, Mr Tony Gordon, said the concept grew from the overwhelming success of the running festival and the need to take the event to the next level by offering add-on experiences.

“We were looking at ways to leverage from the success of the festival,” said Mr Gordon. “We were looking at how we could offer both our locals and visitors unique experiences around the core running events.

Destination Adventure Event Organiser, Ms Daina Clark said she is excited to facilitate the inaugural retreat on Magnetic Island, focusing on health and fitness.

“The Celebrate You retreat is a fantastic experience for women to participate in the Townsville Running Festival, whilst indulging in a pamper weekend for themselves on a tropical island.

“The Celebrate You retreat provides running enthusiasts with the perfect excuse to combine leisure with health and fitness. This three day package includes registration to the half marathon, as well as health and wellbeing workshops, hiking and snorkelling experiences, fine food and accommodation. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in all of this, in the name of health and wellbeing?” laughs Daina.

Townsville Enterprise Director Tourism & Events, Ms Bridget Woods said the retreat is the perfect opportunity for visitors to spend extra time in the region around this event. “Magnetic Island is an ideal location for this retreat concept,” said Ms Woods.

“Both locals and visitors can enjoy three days dedicated to health and fitness,  whilst exploring and enjoying the ambience of the tropical island located on their doorstep. It’s a fantastic way to experience both the running festival and Townsville North Queensland.”
