Runners Raise Funds for a month-long stay at Ronald McDonald House North Australia
Representatives from the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival presented a donation of almost $5,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) North Australia this week.
The donation – a percentage of entry fees from all 2,257 Festival participants – will fund a month’s stay for a family in need as their seriously ill children receive medical treatment in Townsville.
McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival President Tony Gordon said the Festival was proud to continue supporting RMHC North Australia, particularly since its services mean so much to both local and visiting runners.
“Roughly one in four runners at this year’s Festival came from other parts of Queensland – many of them from locations that do not have access to the same medical services we have available here in Townsville,” said Mr Gordon.
“It’s common for families from Cairns, Mackay and across North West Queensland to stay at Ronald McDonald House in Townsville when their children are being treated; which means that so many of our runners know, appreciate and support the facility.
“We’re very proud to be able to support our neighbouring runners by raising funds for Ronald McDonald House,” Mr Gordon said.
“The event is so well-planned and such a lot of fun,” RMHC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Denise Lumsden said.
“We are so very grateful to all the participants in the 2019 McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival for getting behind the Charity and helping us to support local sick kids and their families with our practical care programs.”
